Quick answer: What is the difference between cleanup and debloating?

Cleanup targets stored files; debloating targets applications or configuration. Neither automatically repairs a failing PC.

Two different operations

Cleaning removes selected temporary data, cache or discardable files. Debloating usually means uninstalling unnecessary applications or changing optional Windows behavior. Both may recover resources, but they involve different risks, permissions and recovery steps.

When storage is low

Start at Settings → System → Storage to understand where capacity is used. Large personal files and installed applications can matter more than tiny temp folders. Review Windows cleanup suggestions and preserve files you may still need. Check backup status before deleting content that cannot be recovered.

When the desktop feels busy

Look at startup applications, notifications and programs you do not use. A cluttered Start menu is not proof that hidden services are consuming resources. Prefer removing a clearly optional program over applying generic service-disabling scripts.

When the machine is unstable

Neither cleanup nor debloat is the first answer to disk errors, overheating, malware or damaged system files. Identify the fault, refer to Windows diagnostics and keep a reliable backup. A cleaner can free space, but it is not a repair shop.

Five-point review checklist

  • Define the problem first
  • Measure free storage
  • Choose cleanup for file clutter
  • Choose selective app removal for unused apps
  • Investigate instability separately
Important limitation

Do not use aggressive deletion to compensate for missing backups or a failing storage device.

Common questions

Does Sparkle offer both categories?

The project documents app/tweak controls and a multi-category cleaner.

Can Windows do some of this without Sparkle?

Yes. Windows Storage and Installed apps provide native options.
