Quick answer: What does Sparkle Cleaner remove?

Read the file category before selecting it; deletion may be permanent even when the system itself remains stable.

What the cleaner covers

Sparkle’s public documentation describes user and system temporary files, prefetch data, Recycle Bin content, Windows Update downloads, thumbnail cache and crash/error reports. These are not identical categories. Recycle Bin removal permanently discards material you may have planned to restore; crash reports may be useful while diagnosing a problem.

What gets rebuilt

Some cached thumbnails and temporary working files are recreated when needed. That can mean a short-term delay the next time Windows builds the cache. Prefetch cleanup is not a magic performance improvement; removing a performance-related cache can be counterproductive. Avoid cleaning categories merely because they have a large number attached.

A safer comparison with built-in tools

Windows Settings → System → Storage shows categories and cleanup recommendations. Storage Sense lets you inspect cleanup behavior and opt into schedules. Review Downloads, cloud-backed files and the Recycle Bin rules carefully: their deletion or hydration behavior depends on user settings.

Use a measured workflow

Check free storage before taking action and confirm whether capacity is actually low. Inspect the category, make a backup of any file you might need and clean one category. Recheck free space and verify Windows Update and File Explorer before repeating. If storage was not constrained, do not infer an FPS benefit from removed cache files.

Five-point review checklist

  • Check free storage first
  • Read each cleanup category
  • Review Recycle Bin contents
  • Keep crash logs if investigating failures
  • Verify normal behavior afterward
Important limitation

Cleaning Windows Update data can complicate diagnosis of update problems; avoid it while an update is active.

Common questions

Does clearing temp files increase FPS?

Not reliably. Disk space recovery and graphics performance are different outcomes.

Can deleted files be restored using a system restore point?

System Restore does not replace personal-file backup or guarantee recovery of deleted files.
